UWC is sending a letter to House Speaker Johnson, Ways and Means Committee Chair Smith and Rules Committee Chairwoman Foxx, in support of HR 1156, the Pandemic Unemployment Fraud Enforcement Act. This bill would extend the period during which criminal prosecutions may be filed and pandemic unemployment compensation may be recovered for an additional five years. There remain billions of fraudulently claimed benefits that have not yet been recovered. To ensure that there is authority to pursue prosecutions and recovery of fraudulently claimed benefits this legislation needs to be enacted by March 27, 2025.
Time is short for enactment, although there is broad support for the legislation.
Attached is the UWC letter and information provided by the House Ways and Means Committee majority staff explaining the need for the legislation.
We encourage your review of this legislation and support for HR 1156.
